While the hamantaschen look pretty in the picture in my earlier post, they are rock hard. I think I learn this lesson every year I make them. Take them out of the oven when the recipe tells you to - they will continue baking on the cookie sheet and achieve a perfect consistency. Don't doubt the recipe. Like I did. And now I have dozens of rock-hard hamantaschen. I still eat them, but I much prefer the chewier ones (the kind that don't challenge my teeth).
I think this year, my innovation will be writing this nugget of info in the cookbook so I don't repeating this mistake. Hopefully my first batch will come out better next year.
